One of the most important responsibilities you have as a parent is to keep your child safe when traveling in a vehicle. Every year, thousands of children are injured in traffic accidents. In many cases, these injuries can be avoided or at least minimized with a proper car seat.
Both the use of car seats and their correct use is essential to keep children safe in vehicles.
Child car seats are not an option. It is both a moral and legal obligation. For this reason, there is a wide range of car seats. There are so many that, for first-time parents, choosing one can become a real headache. That’s why today I want to tell you everything you need to know about child car seats to help you make a better choice.
The baby car seat is a safety seat (also called a child restraint system) designed specifically to protect infants during car travel. This seat must be approved and adapted to the weight and height of the child using it. Its function is to prevent possible injuries, or even death, during traffic accidents, so that they are as protected as possible.
All children must use a car seat from birth until they reach a height of 135 cm (approximately 9-10 years).

What is the best baby car seat?
Well, actually there is no best car seat, only the most suitable for you and your baby. It is important that you take into consideration the aspects that we discuss in our shopping guide to choose the one that best suits your needs.
Anyway, to make it easier for you, I have made this guide (I update it frequently) with my selection of what I consider the best car seats. It is based on my own experience and that of other parents.
What anchoring systems do car seats use?
Regardless of the type of seat we have, it is vitally important that it meets safety requirements and is properly attached to the vehicle.
There are two ways to secure the seat to the car:
- With the safety belt. A totally valid option.
- By means of the Isofix system. It is a safer way to fix the seat to the car. This system is based on 3 anchorage points: two located at the base of the backrest and a third one that holds the back of the chair to the backrest or the trunk in case the chair is going in the direction of travel or holding the base of the chair to the car floor in case the chair is going in the opposite direction of travel.
What types of car seats are there?
The chairs are classified by groups according to the weight and/or height of the children.
The types of child car seats that currently exist are
- I-Size (45 – 75 cm high)
- For Group 0 children (from 0 to 10 kg of weight)
- For children of Group 0 and Group 0+ (from 0 to 13 kg of weight)
- I-Size (up to 105 cm)
- For Group 1 children (from 9 to 18 kg of weight)
- For Group 2 children (15 to 25 kg)
- For Group 3 children (22 to 36 kg)
What happens when the baby reaches 135 cm in height?
Children under 12 years old, who are 135 cm high or more, can travel in the vehicle without any child restraint system. It will be enough to use the safety belt. Even so, it is recommended that these restraint systems continue to be used up to 150 cm.
If the belt touches their neck or chin, it is necessary to continue using the booster seat.
When should I change from one seat to another?
This will depend on the groups covered by the seat you choose, as there are models that simply cover one group and others that cover 2 or 3 groups.
For example, there is a wide range of group 0+ and group 1 only chairs, but there is also a wide variety of chairs that cover groups 1, 2 and 3 and chairs that cover groups 2 and 3.
In any case, the important thing is that the child does not travel in a bigger chair than the one that corresponds to him, because he will not have the appropriate support.
Where to buy a car seat for babies?
You can compare baby car seats anywhere where they sell baby products. Although it is true that, given the volume of the seats compared to other products, the smaller the store, the less variety of seats you will find.
That’s why, in this case, department stores are a good option, although online stores are even more so since they have an almost infinite storage and logistics capacity.
And within the online stores, Amazon is a good choice. Both because it is usually the one with the best price and because of its excellent customer service. For example, if you buy a chair and you don’t like it or it’s not what you thought or whatever, you can return it without giving any explanation, quickly and easily and without any cost.
The range of car seats for children offered by Amazon is very wide. You are sure to find the ideal one for you.
To make it easy for you, on this page I will leave you the best updated offers that you will find.
