Without a doubt, an essential part of today’s working moms or busy people is the breast pump. As I have commented several times, there are two types of pumping machines depending on the way they extract the milk: electric or manual.
With my first child, I made a mistake that I now regret. To save a little money, I decided to buy a manual breast pump. Now, with perspective and after raising three children, I know for sure that I made a mistake.
To all my friends or the people who write me to ask, I always say the same thing: “an electric breast pump will give you more time to enjoy your baby”.

How does an electric breast pump work?
The functionality of a breast pump is very similar whether it is manual or electric. Basically, you have to attach the funnel to the breast and adjust it well (at first you will have to hold it a little).
Then you will hit the power button and here may vary a little depending on the model but let me explain in general what normally happens.
As soon as you turn it on, the electric extractor will start with suction that will perform the stimulation function. It is preparing your breast so that your milk is expressed painlessly and in the closest way to a baby’s sucking.
After the stimulation period, which will last between 1 and 3 minutes, the device will go into pumping mode to express your milk. Don’t worry, there’s no need to wait around. Once the machine is on, these processes will take place on their own, so relax and forget about pumping.
Depending on the amount of milk you have and many other factors, pumping may take from 15 minutes to about 1 hour. Don’t worry if it takes too long, just enjoy your baby and that’s it.
Where to Buy an Electric Breast Pump?
Breast pumps are already widely used devices. They can be found in any baby store and even in large surfaces. I recommend that you investigate online and if in doubt, make your purchase on the Internet (Amazon, Ebay, etc). This way, if you need to change it for any reason, you will have the option to do so without any problems.
Also, depending on the moment you are going to buy it, I recommend you to visit different websites and compare prices. I’ve been able to find great deals for losing 3 minutes in the search. That’s why on this page we always have the best deals up to date. I can save you a lot of time and surely money.
Price of electric breast pumps
Electric extractors can have a fairly wide price range. It is up to you to choose the one that best suits your needs.
You will have to take into account, the brand -choose a recognized brand-, the type -electric without doubt- or the capacity you can extract.
But to give you an approximate range, you can find the cheapest electric breast pump for 40 ? -I don’t recommend it- and the most expensive one for about 300 ? -I don’t recommend it either, because I don’t think it’s worth it-.
Aim for something mid-range in terms of price. You can find great extractors for 100-150 euros. It’s worth that investment and you’ll get excellent quality.
Factors to consider when choosing the best Electric Breast Pump
Before knowing which is the best breast pump in your case, I leave you some guidelines to know how to locate it. You will have to analyze the device in several things:
Speed vs Comfort
You have to find a balance between the speed of extraction and your comfort. What matters most to me is always comfort, so I wouldn’t give it up no matter how fast an extractor is.
In my case, I’m lucky and the extraction process is short but if you allow me the advice, always look for comfort above speed or you will end up not using the breast pump -I’m talking about experience-.
well, it’s not a decisive factor, but since we put ourselves, it can be important. Keep in mind that you’ll often do the extraction when your baby is asleep. If you have a device that emits a lot of noise, it may disturb your child and you may have to leave the room. I don’t want to be limited by this.
The capacity of the extractors can be single or double. There are electric breast pumps that allow the milk to be extracted from both breasts at the same time. I honestly don’t like it. It is something more unnatural. And I prefer to take my time, but I understand that if you’re a busy mom or one with more kids, you might want to shorten the process.
Best Brands of Electric Extractors
Although there are more brands in the market, if I had to highlight three of them, I would stay with them:
The Medela brand has been in the market for many years and is the leader in the sector. It spends a lot of money on R&D to make increasingly efficient and economical models. It combines comfort with high technology. It is a brand that never fails.
The Philips brand, through its Avent line, has also been a dominant player in this sector for many years. They also combine comfort with the development of proprietary technology to facilitate removal. Another safe purchase.
Who doesn’t know the Chicco brand? It is clear that in baby matters they are a reference. For some years now, they have been involved in the world of breast pumps and the truth is that they are making good pumps as well.
Which electric breast pump do I recommend?
Okay, I know, now your question is which breast pump I would buy. Look, I’ll be honest with you, every mom is a world and it’s hard to recommend something if you don’t try it yourself.
I’m not exaggerating if I’ve tried more than 10 different breast pump models. Some I have liked and others I would not buy in my life.
But if there is one model that for its versatility, price and comfort I always recommend is this one:
85% Nylon, 15% Spandex – HANDS-FREE PUMPING MADE EASY: Double pumping while multitasking is simple and comfortable, leaving your arms and hands free while you pump. Reinforced openings deliver excellent no-slip support for optimal comfort
